Yikes! Don't Touch That Hotel Room Glass; Hidden Camera Proof

I've written before about the presence of yucky, germy items in some hotel rooms.  Major offenders include television remote controls, telephones, and the biggest one of all, ice buckets.  (When someone suddenly gets sick enough to vomit, guess what they reach for first?)  A Florida television station brings home the dangers of sloppy housekeeping as it applies to glasses in hotel bathrooms with the aid of hidden cameras.

While local, Cobb County health authorities had plenty to say when they saw the footage, the hotels either wouldn't comment or were less than candid. Check it out yourself.  Does "flesh-eating disease" mean anything to you?  The moral: Touch that hotel glass at your own peril.

I'm not sure how many of the germs mentioned in the story would survive long enough on dry glass to pose a real health risk. With that said, the practices they revealed in that story are revolting. I doubt you'd get sick (and, working in healthcare, I've been thoroughly indoctrinated in what we call "infection control"), but it's still nauseating. Thanks for sharing that video!

I don't know, I think that one that washed the toilet and touched the glass with the same glove could give you some nasty germs...

Here's another reason why not to use the ice bucket - a high school swim team might have stayed in the room.

I learned this when my son went to a state swim meet. Swimmers, like some other athletes, shave their exposed skin to make themselves faster (and it's supposed to help with oxygen absorption as well). Anyway, the night before a big meet there is a gathering to shave each other. When I asked him how they all fill in the bathroom (the only place I've EVER shaved), he replied they do it in the hotel room. And they use the ice bucket in place of the sink.

So drink your drinks at room temperature from now on! 8-)
