Last-Minute Olympic Tickets? Yeah, There's a Place For That

For the first time in Olympic history, the Olympic organizing committee has posted a web site that allows folks to buy and sell tickets to events at the Winter Games.  At a profit, if desired.  There are other sites offering Olympic tickets, including StubHub and eBay.  But keep in mind that in past years, ticket prices have plummeted just before the start of the games as supply outstripped demand, so time your purchase (or your sale) wisely.

I watched a travel show some time ago...can't remember if it was yours Rudy or not, but it was about taking a boat down a small canal and at times the boat would stop and the captain would get out to raise or lower locks, other stops allowed you to get off and take a bike ride or check some of the villages, etc on the way, one stop was to have lunch or brunch and the rest of the time, meals were on the boat. It was a tour for just a one family or a couple or two. I think you sleep on the boat two. Does this trip ring a bell with you? Do you know of such a trip? And for some reason I think it was in Italy...one of the stops was checking out some winery. Thank you

Kathie, that wasn't my show. However, I have done (as a personal trip with my son) what is commonly called a self-drive "barge" trip through Burgundy, though there are many routes and companies that serve other parts of Europe.

You're not really on a barge. It's sort of a modified cabin-outfitted power boat that can only go about four m.p.h. You captain it, you sleep on it, you get out and open the self-operated locks on canals . . . it's great fun. And you can stop anywhere you want, tie up, take the bikes (usually provided) off the boat and tool around the town or countryside.

Do a Google search for "self drive barge trips in Europe" and you'll find plenty of options.
